Severe weather damage in southeast Oklahoma

Wind gusts of up to 74 miles an hour caused damage near Stigler in Haskell County early Thursday morning. <br/><br/>A portion of the roof at the Stigler Livestock Auction was ripped off by the wind.

Wind gusts of up to 74 miles an hour caused damage near Stigler in Haskell County early Thursday morning.

A portion of the roof at the Stigler Livestock Auction was ripped off by the wind. No animals were injured, but the wind catapulted metal as far as 100 yards away. Susan Satterfield says the area got heavy rain and hail, but the wind was the major problem. Soon cleanup will begin. â€œIt's a lot of work. It takes a lot of time to pick all this up. And it will take a long time to build the barn back."

Southwest of Stigler in McCurtain, school employees cleaned up damage and kids got the day off. The storms were sort of an early start to spring break thanks to Mother Nature.

Darrell Adcock is McCurtain's superintendant. â€œIt just took this part of the building up, took it up there. Picked it up high enough and just turned it around and set it right there."

Now Adcock and others are working to patch the roof on the shop building and up at Stigler at the livestock auction, they'll soon begin repairs, before more severe weather moves in.
