Criminals will soon have a new place to call home in Creek County.
The city of Sapulpa has outgrown its old city jail, so they built a new one. The News on 6 was allowed inside the new facility Monday. It officially opens Wednesday.
The new jail is more than 19,000 square feet, which is more than three and a half times the size of the old one.
Police say the project has been a long time in the making. Sapulpa Police Captain Rick Rumsey: "six years of work, five years of planning and 10 months of construction."
The city jail was made possible by a bond passed by voters a couple of years ago. The old city jail building will be taken over by city hall.
