Nothing warms on a cold night quite like a blanket or quilt. Project Warmth collects gently used blankets and quilts cleans them, mends them and gets them to people who need them. The News On 6's Rick Wells reports the program to share warmth works because of you.

The Day Center for the Homeless is one of many beneficiaries of Project Warmth.

"We sleep here 125 people every night. We use blankets for our night shelter," said the Day Center's Sandra Lewis.

Sandra Lewis is the director of the Day Center. She says she thinks they got 100, maybe 150 blankets from the program last year. It allows them to maintain a couple of sets of sheets and blankets. They can do laundry everyday and always have a clean set each night.

"During the ice storm, we had people coming in off the street who had no power who needed blankets so they could go back home and stay warm," said the Day Center's Sandra Lewis.

Project Warmth began in 2004. Since then, 12,000 blankets, quilts and comforters have been donated. They go to LaMode Cleaners where they are cleaned and minor repairs can be made. Jim Light at LaMode has said his employees are proud of their involvement.

"They've contributed, and they feel good about their part in the program. So, it's a win win for everybody," said Jim Light of LaMode Cleaners.

Volunteers of America distributes the blankets to folks who need them.

The News On 6's Project Warmth runs through the month of January. Blankets and quilts can be dropped off at any LaMode Cleaners or Western Sun Credit Union location.
