The Christmas spirit is alive and well for a North Tulsa family. On Friday, The News On 6 told you how thieves stole $500 worth of Christmas presents from under Angela Stewart's tree. Dozens of viewers saved Christmas for the Stewart family. The News On 6's Dan Bewley reports it started after the story first aired on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Phone calls and e-mails rained in from people looking to help Angela Stewart and her seven children.
The News On 6 is happy to report Stewart and her family will be having a very Merry Christmas.
Angela Stewart has her very own Christmas story, complete with bows and wrapping paper.
A glance to her tree and the words are impossible to find when Angela Stewart thinks of the difference a day makes.
The tree is now surrounded by Christmas presents, a kid-size drill, a heavy duty 4x4, and to keep it organized, it's Clifford the Big Red Dog. A far cry from Friday when the tree was bare after thieves broke through the back door of the Stewart home and stole all of their presents. Friday, Angela Stewart was angry.
"Shouldn't be taking from other people. I worked so hard, I worked hard," said Stewart on Friday.
It was a different story on Saturday thanks to folks like the Workmans.
"It just touched our hearts. So we sent an e-mail saying we had an extra ham," said Steve & Kathleen Workman.
The Christmas spirit is back.
"The good is overriding the bad that happened and it's beautiful," said Stewart.
So now the Stewarts can do what other families across Green Country are doing, celebrate and rejoice.
"I just want to tell them thank you," said Stewart.
Angela says she's received more presents and money than what was stolen so she plans to use the extra to buy gifts for some her neighbors and family members who are also in need. It's her way, she says, of paying it forward.
There are still dozens of other families in need across Green Country. The Toys for Tots program is experiencing a shortage this year, mostly due to the ice storm. Donations can still be made at any area QuickTrip.
