CLAREMORE, Okla. - Family and friends of Technical Sergeant Marshal Roberts will finally be able to pay tribute Saturday with a funeral and procession.
Dozens of people were at the Claremore Expo Center Friday, making sure everything is in place to honor Roberts.
"We're very glad that we're going to be able to gather here tomorrow and honor Marshal and his memory and all that he's done in support of his country," said Colonel Robin Cavanaugh.
Colonel Cavanaugh said Roberts is the first member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard to be killed in combat. He died in a rocket attack in March.
Several people were rehearsing for his memorial service, making sure everything is perfect to honor the fallen hero. Wanda with Blue Star Mothers was lining the path with flags.
"Just to show our respect that we're thankful for his service and sacrifice him and his family have had to make," she said.
The service will be followed by a procession to Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow.
Colonel Cavanaugh invites the community to show support for the family by lining streets and holding a flag or banner.
It won't be the first time the community has come together for Roberts. Hundreds of people showed up when his body returned home in March.
"It was absolutely unbelievable the show of support, I don't think that there was a place along the route that didn't have someone standing there with a sign or a banner," she said.
The procession will go west on Highway 20 to Highway 169, then south to Floral Haven.
The service starts at 10 a.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
