A Tulsa gym is using a UV light machine to disinfect their equipment from any coronavirus pathogens. Beyond The Gym says it’s the first business in Tulsa to try the Puro UV Light after seeing the success of the light in the New York City Metro.
As life begins trying to return to normal, businesses are searching for a way to keep the public safe when they come into their buildings.
Matt Giuliano is the owner of Beyond The Gym in Tulsa. He says they took many measures to reopen safely, but he still didn’t feel like that was enough. After research, he found the Puro UV Light could be bought here in Tulsa through First Light. The Puro UV Light has already been used in places like New York City in their subway system to disinfect areas by zapping them with UV light. After seeing the success in that, Giuliano decided to purchase his own light for his gym.
“I take the unit and move it from place to place in the gym and have it disinfected within a couple hours if I wanted to, it’s so easy,” Giuliano says.
The light pulses in thirty-minute cycles, killing what can’t simply be wiped down. First Light manager Clete Harrington says they recently got test results back that show the light kills many pathogens, including the ones associated with the coronavirus.
“It gets a deeper clean, it cleans the air, it cleans surfaces, 99.9% pathogens are destroyed in 30 minutes,” Harrington says.
Giuliano says in the past few days they have already cleaned the entire gym and their physical therapy room more than once and will continue to do daily cleanings.
