Burglary Attempt Turns Into Deadly Shooting In Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow police said they are looking for at least one more person involved in a burglary. Investigators believe the suspects targeted a home in the Indian Springs neighborhood.

Neighbors said they heard helicopters and search dogs Sunday night when police flooded the quiet neighborhood. 

Police were called to the area around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after getting reports that a woman living in the home had shot someone who tried to break in the house.

According to police, at least another person got away. When officers arrived at the home, they found a man dead in front of the house.

Broken Arrow Officer Chris Walker said they have a lot of evidence to help figure out the suspect’s motive. 

"There is (sic) multiple shell casings and there's possibly a video from a neighbor,” Walker said. “We are trying to put the pieces together. It’s like a giant puzzle. Instead of a 500-piece puzzle, it's a 5,000-piece puzzle.” 

Walker said detectives believe the suspects targeted the residents in the home.

"This wasn't just a random burglary were there kicking in the door the suspect had an idea of who the victims were," Walker said. 

Neighbors declined to go on camera but told us the family moved in the home two months ago. 

Walker said homicides in Broken Arrow are rare. 

"I think over the past 20 years, we average about two a year,” Walker said. “I'm glad for our community support and we look forward to their help in solving this one.” 

No one has been arrested as of Sunday night.
