The Tulsa Police Foundation hosted a fundraiser Wednesday for the families of Sergeant Craig Johnson and Officer Aurash Zarkeshan.
Mayor GT Bynum said that the community contributed over $515,000 to the fundraiser today, and said in a FaceBook post,
"Today the true Tulsa Spirit shines bright: Just confirmed with my friend Roger Chasteen, Chairman of the TPD Foundation, that our community contributed over $515,000 TODAY for the families of Sergeant Craig Johnson and Officer Aurash Zarkeshan!"
The fundraiser was held at LaFortune Park and the three police divisions across town were all present.
The Chairman of the Police Foundation, Roger Chasteen, said "The financial will never replace the loss. But what it does is eases the burden. That's what we want to do. Let them focus on the families. Let them focus on getting better and we want to take away that financial burden and just let them heal."
Chasteen said all the money raised from this fundraiser will go directly to Sgt. Johnson and officer Zarkeshan's families.
