OHP Reports Fatal Collision Near Oakwood

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a fatal collision Tuesday afternoon 6 miles northwest of Oakwood in Dewey County.

The collision occurred on US-270 when a Dodge Durango crossed the center road line and struck a 2011 GMC Sierra going the opposite direction, pinning the passenger for 20 minutes and the driver for almost an hour, until Seiling Fire and Rescue got him out. The driver of the Sierra, Gary Lee Bird, was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner.

The driver of the Durango and the passenger of the Sierra were both transported to hospitals in Oklahoma City and admitted in critical condition.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
