The head of the U.S. Park Police told Congress on Tuesday that officers cleared protesters from the park next to the White House last month for public safety, not political reasons.
The event in question happened almost two months ago when a large crowd protesting the death of George Floyd at Lafayette Square Park was aggressively removed. Moments later, President Trump strode through for a photo op just a few feet away.
