GLENPOOL, Okla. -

The beginning of the school year is around the corner and Faith Church in Glenpool wanted to make sure families were ready by providing backpacks and school supplies.

The plan was to start giving out backpacks at 9 a.m. Sunday, but families began arriving around 7:30. However, 500 backpacks were given away within just two hours. People also pulled into the church around 10 a.m.

“This year, when we did it with COVID(-19), we moved it outside,” Faith Church Executive Pastor Greg Conner said.

Conner said they’ve been doing an annual backpack giveaway for the past eight years, but this year had a much larger turnout.

“Running out so quick shows there’s a need out there,” Conner said.

Each backpack is filled with $20 worth of school supplies.

“We’ve had to turn people away, unfortunately,” Conner said.

Connor believed it’s a sign that more people of faith need to reach out to see the needs around them.

“Use what God has given them to make a difference in people’s life,” Conner said.

Conner said the church is attempting to get more backpacks. If you need a backpack, contact the church by calling this number: (918) 321-2720.
