Norman Public Schools To Start School Virtually Due To Rise In County COVID Cases

Norman Public School leaders released their back to school plan about three weeks ago. The plan included an in-person instruction option.

COVID-19 cases in Cleveland County rose last week, which moved the county into the orange zone. The State Health Department described that as meaning there is a moderate risk of the virus getting out of hand.

Now, the district has decided to kick off the school year on August 24 with classes being 100% virtual.

“This has been a tough time for the past few months it has been hard on our teachers and families,” said Dr. Nick Migliorino, the superintendent.

Though they have decided to start virtually they are working to figure out a way to get kids back into the classroom, but safely.

“At the end of the day we want to get back to in-person instruction and we are going to find a way to do that,” said Dr. Migliorino. “But, for now it is best to start virtually.”
