Tulsa Police are currently investigating a pursuit suspect was shot by an officer Sunday morning.

The condition of the suspect is not known at the time but officers say they will provide updates when they are available.

Officers said they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the man led them on a lengthy chase across town. TPD told News On 6 this is the second officer-involved shooting to happen in less than 24 hours. One veteran who lives nearby said it's sad to see something like this happen in his front yard. John Donaldson said he served 28 years in the military and fought in the Gulf War.

"Man, I thought I had left that life behind," Donaldson said.

Sunday morning he woke up to gunshots outside his home.

"Me and my wife, was actually looking out the window and you could see the gunshots the gunshots, you know,” said Donaldson. “You could see the fire coming from the gun."

Tulsa Police said they tried to stop the suspect near 61st and Peoria when he took off. Officers say the Tulsa Police helicopter was nearby, so they continued monitoring the lengthy chase from overhead. They said the suspect then ended up on the Creek Turnpike and that’s when Oklahoma Highway Patrol got involved.

"Went all the way East and then onto 169, North on 169. Ultimately, we continued to follow, and he was stop sticked," said Capt. Jillian Phippen, Tulsa Police.

Tulsa Police Officers said stop sticks helped deflate the tires near 21st and 145th East Avenue, but the suspect then got out on foot.

"A fight ensued, the suspect presented a knife in his hand, our officers deployed pepper balls as well as a taser and one of our officers did end up firing a round and shot the suspect," Capt. Phippen said.

Neighbors like Donaldson said they were surprised to hear gunshots in their peaceful neighborhood.

"It was crazy to see something like that, you know, to have that happen right in your front yard. You know, it was, it was, it was horrible,” Donaldson said.

According to Tulsa Police, all the officers who were involved are okay.
