Oklahoma City Public Schools, the state's largest school district, begins virtual classes on Monday morning.

It will be the start of an unprecedented semester for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Students will have the choice of two different online learning options.

“We know this is hard. We know this is difficult,” OKCPS Deputy Superintendent Jason Brown said. “We've worked really hard to try to think of everything in this new environment.”

One of two options includes teacher-led remote learning. This style of learning will allow students to use technology to learn from home, but they will still interact with their teacher and classmates in an online group setting.

“Multiple times during the week, a teacher reaching out to a student or a student reaching out to a teacher, having a conversation,” OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel said.

The other style of learning is called e3 Online Learning. The e3 option will be a 100 percent virtual learning experience.

Officials said this model will be self-paced, student-led learning with the help from a mentor teacher.

“Some students will need more help with certain curriculum,” Brown said. “Some students will move faster in areas where they've already mastered or have proficiencies.”

All students were assigned devices to connect online. Though the district will start online, OKCPS hopes to eventually return to school.

“Our goal is to get kids back to school,” Dr. McDaniel said. “That is the best place for them, but we want to do it safely, efficiently.”

Schools will also continue to provide a grab-and-go meal service during the week.
