Here are six things to know for Thursday before you set your alarm.
1.SPECIAL MEETING: The State Board of Education will hold a special meeting to discuss and possibly update its COVID-19 response plan. The meeting is set to start at 9:30 a.m.
2.UNDERSTANDING MCGIRT: The University of Tulsa Law School will host a virtual discussion on the Supreme Court’s decision on the McGirt v. Oklahoma case. It starts at 5:30 p.m. and they will discuss the history of the case and its impact on federal Indian law.
3.CONGRESSIONAL HEARING: The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing on the Quarterly CARES Act Report to Congress. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will testify.
4.HIRING FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Macy’s is looking to hire more than 5,800 people at its Owasso fulfillment center to help with holiday orders. They will begin the hiring process from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
5.FREE FLU SHOTS: The Oklahoma caring Van will be at the Utica Park Clinic in Owasso Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. offering free flu shots for kids who are uninsured, Medicaid eligible or American Indian.
6.PLEADING FOR DONATIONS: The American Red Cross will host several blood drives Thursday. There will be two at Hillcrest Medical Center: one in the morning and another in the afternoon. There will be one at the McAlester Church of Christ starting at noon. The Red Cross is asking for those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma.
