The Bell family spent months preparing for the Tulsa State Fair’s Junior Livestock Show. The family owns a cattle operation called “Bell Cattle Company.”
Julie Bell and her four children had an opportunity to show their steers. It was 15-year-old Ruby Bell’s first time to compete. She’s been showing since she was nine.
“I used to show goats when I was little, and it was nothing compared to showing cattle,” Ruby Bell said.
Julie’s family runs a cattle operation on their ranch in Bristow.
They’ve been showing heifers and steers for years, but the COVID-19 pandemic has brought some uncertainty.
“We were nervous that Tulsa was going to get canceled,” Julie Bell said.
It was 10-year-old Hadlie Bell’s first time to show.
“It was really a great experience,” Hadlie Bell said.
Hadlie won Reserve Champion Shorthorn Steer, Tate won Reserve Champion Charolais, Ruby won Reserve Champion Chianina Steer and Abby won Champion and Reserve Champion Steers.
Julie said it’s not only about a completion to them, but a way to instill discipline.
“We are very passionate to support the industry and teach our children to be productive citizens.” Julie Bell said.
Julie Bell there’s a chance the children could compete in the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City.
