Man Arrested After Standoff In Nowata, Police Say

An hours-long standoff came to an end in Nowata after a man barricaded himself in a home on Wednesday night.

Officials have identified the suspect as Clint Veley, who is being held on bond.

According to police the standoff began around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night however, the man had initially barricaded himself inside the Nowata home hours earlier.

Police said the standoff began after they received a call about an assault that occurred inside of a a church before the suspect barricaded himself. The assault victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and will be alright.

Nowata police closed a portion of Highway 60 as they surrounded the house. According to police at least one shot was fired by the suspect however no officers were injured. Police said once they were able to get inside of the barricaded home the suspect cooperated with authorities.

Police arrested the suspect on several offenses including felony possession of a firearm and aggravated assault and battery.
