Tulsa County Commissioners approved more than $3 million in CARES Act Money to help feed people in need this holiday season.
They said the need for food has spiked 400% since last year. Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma said it’s seen the increase firsthand.
“Before the pandemic, we were serving about 70-100 families a day,” Deacon David Hamel with Catholic Charities said. “Since the pandemic, we’ve gone upwards of 600 families in one day.”
Hamel said the additional money will help them get through the holidays but said the need will last much longer.
