A legendary Tulsa basketball coach has now been permanently honored by the city.
Mike Mims coached Booker T. Washington High School to three state championships. He is also remembered as a community leader and mentor to countless to young men in Tulsa.
On Thursday, Mayor G.T. Bynum dedicated a street in his name.
“Help these kids survive out in the real world,” Mims said. “To go to college, to have a family, to have kids, to face their responsibilities. Those are the things that I try to teach as a coach.”
Coach Mike Mims Place starts at the corner of North Peoria and Woodrow, just a few blocks from Booker T. Washington.
