Rogers County Voters Turn Out In Record Numbers For Early Voting

In Rogers County, the line of voters was there when the office opened and there was still a line Thursday night when the office closed.

It’s an indication of high interest in the election and concern about making votes count.

The Rogers County Election Board office has been surrounded for two days, but that long line moves fast; 30-45 minutes for most voters.

They do most of the paperwork outside, as a precaution with COVID-19, before voters get inside to mark their ballots.

 “It's weird, hopefully we can just get it done and get it done right,” voter Joshua Fontenot said. “We want a fair and legal election.”

The county has a second early voting location in Owasso, for voters on the west side of the County. 2,500 voters in Rogers County cast ballots Monday, and most of them were in Owasso.

 “I thought I was going to beat the long line, we left once but I talked to lady coming out and she said it was about an hour, so we got back in,” voter Mike Landers said.

The election board will stay open to handle all the voters in line as of 6 p.m., and they're expecting a larger crowd Saturday when more people have time. They're certain Tuesday will be busy too.

 “I'm always excited when voters want to come in and they're engaged,” Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody said. “We've got a lot of voters and that excites me.”

Nobody was complaining about the wait, under a nice clear sky, with interest high in the presidential election - the turnout continues to set records.

“I just want to make sure there's a positive change in our economy and the schools, that's number one for me because I'm a teacher,” voter Sarah Moreton said.
