A Sapulpa couple is offering to pay hundreds of dollars to the person who broke into their car, all because of something the thief left behind.

They said that whoever stole from them needs the money more than their family and they want to show some grace.

Katy Rich and her husband Josh had one of their cars broken into this week. The burglar stole a saw, a camera and a work computer that has every single photo of their four-year-old son, Eli's life. Whoever has those items now, left something behind that Katy and Josh found: a sippy cup.

"As a mother the desperation that they must have had. It shouldn't have had to get to that point,” Katy said.

"People do not steal unless they are hurting,” Josh said. “Even if it was a kid just checking cars, there is hurt there. That is when we were like, we can flip the script here," said Josh.

Josh and Katy are kids’ directors at GUTS Church in Sapulpa and said seeing the sippy cup changed the whole situation for them.

"That is GUTS motto, is help people win. We live that,” Josh said. “We want to see people succeed. We want to see them living the life that was intended for them.”

They want to help this person, not press charges. The couple said all the want are the items returned, a conversation and the person will walk away with $600 and maybe even a little more hope than they had before.

"It is a very simple way to show grace and mercy,” Josh said. “This world needs less judgment and more mercy.”
