Oklahoma Senator James Lankford issued a statement after a resolution that he introduced with Democratic Delaware Senator Chris Coons, to condemn blasphemy laws, passed unanimously.
"The right to live your faith is one of the most basic human rights," Lankford said. "We should not turn a blind eye to the mistreatment of religious minorities across the globe when we have the responsibility to advance our core value to have faith, live a faith, change your faith, or have no faith at all."
According to a recent report, 84 countries still have criminal blasphemy laws which punish people who engage in expression deemed "blasphemous."
