The Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting Friday morning to discuss students returning to the classroom.
Currently, Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students are set to return to the classroom on Monday, January 25th. If that goes well, students in grades 4 through 12 would follow suit the following Monday, February 1.
However, since winter break the district is reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases. This could mean that the return to in-person learning will be pushed back even further.
According to the district's COVID-19 case count website, there are 73 close contact exposures and 56 confirmed cases. These numbers are up from where they were on December 18, just before students went on winter break. At that time, the district reported 32 close contact exposures and 30 confirmed cases. That's an increase of 41 close contacts and 26 confirmed cases in less than a month.

According to the agenda for Friday morning's special board meeting, board members will decide the "method, pace, and conditions" under which students can return to the classroom. That includes possible changes to the school calendar and discussion of COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
