Photographs taken by Tulsa Public Schools Phoenix Rising students now line the halls of the Community Gallery at Ahha Tulsa.
"The Phoenix Rising, which is one of Tulsa Public Schools alternative sites, really explores non-traditional ways for students to achieve success," said Lauren Collins, Director of Communications at Ahha Tulsa.
Students took a five-week cellphone photography course taught by local photographer Anitra Lavanhar as part of Ahha's Artists in the Schools program.
"It included visits from other artists, the students studied work by famous photographers, and then it culminated to some field trips where they got to practice their photography skills around the city," Collins said.
Collins said this was a chance for Phoenix Rising's high school students to express their voices outside of the classroom and through art and photography.
"A lot of students need support that may be a little nontraditional for the classroom setting," Collins said.
Collins said the photography is for sale and the money goes to the student artist and the Artists in the Schools program. She said the program helps students connect with art.
"Really let the students form that relationship and really feel safe expressing themselves through art,” Collins said.
The exhibit will be open until March 22.
