The cousin of a woman who is fighting for her life talked to News on 6, after police say a man shot seven people inside a home in Muskogee Tuesday.

“Just asking for prayers right now. This is a sad, sad all through the day,” said Sweet Pea Hearn.

The suspect, 25-year-old Jarron Pridgeon, is in the Muskogee County jail. Police said he shot his brother 24-year-old Javarion Lee, as well as Brittany Anderson and her five children, one-year-old Jalaiya Pridgeon, three-year-old Jaidus Pridgeon, five-year-old Harmony Anderson, six-year-old Neveah Pridgeon and nine-year-old Que’dynce Anderson were also shot.

Police found Lee and four children dead inside the home. A fifth child died at the hospital. Anderson is in the hospital.

"It's sad right now. Kind of angry, angry you know. I tell you innocent people for no reason. That's my big ordeal. What's the purpose. We're supposed to love each other you know," Hearn said.

Muskogee Police Chief Johnny Teehee called this a mass murder and hasn't seen something remotely like this in Muskogee in decades.

"You think mass murder with adults. When you have to put that with regards to babies, it's tough. You can't even imagine what would come into somebody's mind to get to the point, whether it's anger or whatever it may be, and we're still working on motive," Teehee said.

Police were called to the scene in a neighborhood near Hancock and York, around 1:00am. Officers report they found Pridgeon with a weapon. They said an officer fired one shot and at Pridgeon and missed. They said Pridgeon tried to flee, but was quickly taken into custody.

"It's difficult. We're concerned about the officers, the families. It affects our whole community. It's just a lot of sadness today," said Muskogee Officer Lynn Hamlin.

Court records show the Pridgeon has a previous felony conviction for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He also has misdemeanor convictions for obstruction, resisting and possession of drugs.

Police said there were three other children inside the home who were not hurt.

There is a GoFundMe set up to help the family.
