Students at Mingo Valley Christian just donated truckloads of food to John 3:16 Mission in Tulsa.
Mingo Valley Christian has been doing this drive for more than 30 years. It is a little different this year because of COVID-19, but students showed up in a big way just like they always do.
The stage at Mingo Valley was covered in donations Wednesday.
Students created an assembly line to get the food organized faster, so it could be loaded into the trucks outside, headed for John 3:16. There was a lot of organizing to do - more than 14,000 pounds of food was donated.
Each grade competes during spirit week to see who can come up with the most donations. The kids wore costumes and celebrated with daily assemblies on Zoom.
This year, 5th grade took the prize. 10-year-old Abby Madden said just being a part of the whole process meant the world to her.
"John 3:16, they are just so nice and kind and knowing that I get to be a part of that just makes me really happy," said Madden.
These donations will go to hundreds of families in need who John 3:16 works with daily. This event usually means the school is one of John 3:16's largest food donors.
