A food truck owner and his customers are giving back to the community, and he said he was inspired by one of News On 6’s Something Good stories.

Welcome to Phillip Gilbertson's dream.

"I get up every day at 3:30 a.m. and I am up here at 4:15 a.m. and I probably don't get home until 6-6:30 at night. I do that Tuesday through Saturday," said Gilbertson, owner of Tulsa Brisket Company.

Everything he sells is made fresh daily and what's left over at the end of the day is donated to homeless shelters in town.

"Every single day of the week we have brisket, turkey, ribs, pulled pork and then some kind of sausages. Wednesday, I do chicken, smoked scalloped potatoes and then Friday what everyone loves is we do smoked queso nachos," said Gilbertson.

Their business comes from a labor of love.

"So me and my uncle - I made the smoker, we made the trailer, I bought the truck but I had to change some things in it so this is not like I went out and spent a whole bunch of money, this is blood, sweat and tears,” Gilbertson said.

Gilbertson said he was inspired by another Something Good story on Flo's Burger Diner down the street. The owners have been feeding families in need for free.

"I thought I should do something like that with my business, to not only create and serve great food to people, but also have a platform to do something positive,” Gilbertson said.

He spent money out of his own pocket to buy hot links, sausages, and hot dogs. He smokes them and gives them away for free on Tuesdays to people who need them.

Gilbertson also asks for donations if people want to help. All the cash goes towards a community organization he picks at the end of the month.

Most of the people stopping by haven't come to grab free food and leave - they come to donate. They want to support a place like Tulsa Brisket Company who is giving back to the community.

This month, proceeds will go to Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS).
