Teenagers at a Sand Springs church are wrapping up a different kind of Spring Break.

It was the fifth year HillSpring Church served the community during Spring Break. Rather than cutting loose on the beach or sleeping in, kids decided to love their neighbors.

"Stepped up to the plate to be the hands and feet of Jesus,” Executive Assistant Cassie Barnett said.

75 teenagers at the church came together for three days to clean up trash at homes and other locations around the city. They even volunteered to clear a three-mile trail for hikers at Keystone Ancient Forest.

"So that the forest can be opened for this summer and then we have another team that is going to help and assist with cleanup for Angus Elementary,” Bonnett said.

It's part of the church's “#selfless2021,” in which kids give up their spring break to help others. Barnett joined the kids in service. She said there's a greater need to serve this year.

It was 13-year-old Kalei Kellogg's second year to volunteer. Just like the other kids, she wasn't afraid to get dirty.

"Everyone is going through a hard time right now,” Kellogg said.

The church plans to do more community outreaches this year and welcome volunteers.
