Tulsa Teacher Corps Application Deadline Approaching

The application deadline for the Tulsa Teacher Corps program is quickly approaching for the 2021-2022 school year. The application deadline is April 1.

The Tulsa Teacher Corps program is for anyone with a bachelor’s degree in any field who wants to switch careers to being an educator instead.

TPS says in order to be fully staffed they need at least 75 people to apply by April 1st. Those who are chosen for this round of the program will then go through summer training that will prepare them for the school year.

This is the third year of the program and although Talent and Development Director Quentin Liggins said they started with a much smaller group for the program in 2018, they are ready to jump back in this year and get new fresh teaching faces into their schools.

“We want it to be clear there are people in our community right now who have great community relationships and experiences,” Liggins said. “Whether it be coaching or serving in faith-based organizations if those individuals want to extend that into our classrooms through teaching formally then we are excited to have them.”

He said teachers from the program will be spread out through all TPS schools, but most people will be sent to the elementary levels where there are the most positions open.
