The Oklahoma Air National Guard is preparing to break ground on a new housing initiative in Tahlequah.

Next week, it will break ground on the Cherokee Veterans Housing Initiative as part of the Innovative Readiness Training project.

The IRT project is a Department of Defense program. It provides joint training to increase deployment readiness and provides services like health care, construction, transportation and cybersecurity.

The Cherokee Nation applied for the partnership to build up to 10 homes per year for Cherokee Military Veterans.

Crews will break ground on Monday.
