Broken Arrow's recycling services are changing for the next few weeks following a fire at the Tulsa Recycling Center.
Broken Arrow put out a notice to let customers know their recycling service will be affected, starting Monday, for at least several weeks.
Customers can still set out their recyclables, but they will go to the Waste to Energy Plant to be processed with general trash. Normally all recycled items would go to the Tulsa Recycling Center. But last Thursday a fire damaged parts of the plant. At the time, firefighters told News On 6 a battery put in the wrong place likely sparked the fire. They said someone set it on a conveyer belt and it got mixed in with other recyclables.
The Tulsa Recycling Center also handles recycling for Tulsa customers. We've checked the City of Tulsa's pages online, but the city hasn't shared an update on its plans for recycled items while the center works to get up and running again.
