City Program To Help Revitalize Neighborhood Near Downtown Tulsa

The city of Tulsa has plans to improve a neighborhood near downtown. City leaders say Crosbie Heights, just west of the IDL, hasn't been revitalized like other downtown areas have.

A new program is working to fix that.

Crosbie Heights is the first neighborhood selected in the city's new revitalization program called Vibrant Neighborhood Partnerships. CARES Act funds and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development are paying for it.

Emily Scott with the Tulsa Planning Office said the goal is to work with people to determine what they want and need.

That could include improved sidewalks, public art, homeowner and public safety support, youth programming and more access to food.

The city will meet with residents in the next couple of weeks and develop a concrete plan to implement over the next two to three years.

"The neighborhood applied to this because they do want to grow and change but they also want to keep that unique identity and character of their neighborhood,” said Scott. “The last thing they want is to feel like they don't connect with their neighborhood anymore or that they feel forced out."

The city will start working with another neighborhood in about six months. Six neighborhoods applied through the program.
