On Wednesday, analysis is expected to begin on skeletal remains found inside a mass grave at Tulsa's Oaklawn Cemetery that could be connected to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
Archeologists say they have discovered a total of 27 burials in the mass grave, that is 15 more than they knew about last October. The team expects to find more as it continues digging to the west.
Archeologists say there are a couple of consistencies they are noticing as they make more discoveries.
Currently, every burial they have found in the mass grave is in a coffin. The team also said that each burial has been found at roughly the same depth underground.
"We have not removed the possibility that some of these individuals or many of these individuals may be associated with the 1918-1919 flu pandemic. So we have to remain cautious and not get too ahead of ourselves in terms of our interpretations," said State Archeologist Dr. Kary Stackelbeck.
A team of eight people from a company called "Cardno" is in Tulsa from Florida working to help remove the remains from the ground so that they can be studied.
