Warm and humid weather will remain today with a few showers or storms mostly across southern sections before drier air arrives later tonight. Most of the holiday weekend looks good for Eastern Oklahoma.
An unseasonably strong mid-level trough is positioned across the Great Lakes region and has resulted in a stout northerly flow across the northern to central high plains. A mid-level ridge located to our west is continuing to slowly sink southwest away from our region while a surface cold front has moved into part of the state thanks to the northeast trough. As noted the past few days, the airmass directly behind the front is still quite moist (still tropical in nature) and will keep us feeling warm and humid today with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 80s. A few spotty showers will remain possible across Eastern OK but higher likelihoods will exist south and southwest of the metro, closer to the surface boundary. Later this afternoon, drier air (lower dew points) will advect from the Missouri Valley into at least northeastern OK bringing us some very pleasant weather tonight through most of the extended Holiday period before the synoptic pattern changes again early next week with a quick return to humid and unsettled weather.
After highs today in the mid to upper 80s, as the airmass dries, temps will drop this evening into early Saturday morning with many locations reaching the lower to mid-60s Saturday morning. Some sheltered and valley locations of extreme Eastern OK and Western Arkansas could briefly experience lows in the upper 50s. The relatively drier air also heats efficiently with weekend highs reaching the upper 80s. Sunday, the 4th looks good across our part of the state with mostly sunny sky, a few clouds and winds from the south near 10 to 15 mph. Sunday evening temps right after sunset will be near the upper 70s. There will be a chance for showers and storms across far northwestern OK as another system develops and moves into that portion of the state.
Monday, July 5th also looks mostly good with lows near 68 and highs reaching 90 but the pattern quickly changes again as a weak, trough develops over the state sandwiched between two mid-level ridges, one west and the other east. Significant low-level moisture is expected to rapidly surge northward bringing tropical moisture back into the region along with scattered storms Tuesday through at least Thursday as another weak front nears the state before either stalling or becoming diffuse across northern OK Thursday into Friday of next week.
Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
