Heat advisories and a few isolated storms will be in the forecast today and tomorrow before storm chances diminish. Highs will reach above seasonal averages with heat index values from 105 to 110 for the foreseeable future.
A typical summer pattern is underway across the state bringing increasing heat index values due to the abundant low-level moisture and increasing midlevel ridge of high pressure. This pattern will still allow a few isolated showers storms for the next few days before the ridge expands even further across the region.
Our main forecasting challenge continues to involve these very small-scale disturbances that may trigger highly isolated thunderstorms the next two days. Any mature storm could produce very heavy rainfall with a threat of damaging downburst winds. But the lack of a larger focal mechanism will keep our mentions mostly low, around 30% today and 20% Tuesday. There will be a few storms but most of us of Eastern OK will remain dry. There will be a few storms in a few spots.
Unfortunately, the entire region will remain extremely humid and hot with increasing heat and heat index values for the foreseeable future. The entire region will again be placed under a heat advisory due to dew points in the 70s and afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 90s. The boundary layer moisture will slowly dry some by midweek which will allow the daytime highs to increase a few degrees. This means real-deal highs will be near or even slightly over 100 by the end of the week before the ridge begins to flatten and change shape as the weekend arrives. This solution could bring another 'back-door' front into part of northeastern OK early next week with a few storms and a minor reduction in highs.
Buckle down and keep hydrated. Heat and humidity can be very dangerous.
Keep a lookout for the isolated storm or two the next few days. If you do see one, the good news: it will cool your area for a few hours. Any storm could also produce gusty to damaging winds and very heavy rainfall confined to a small area.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
