Construction is underway on North 52nd West Avenue at the Hominy Creek bridge in Osage County more than a month after lots of the road collapsed into a nearby creek. The road is a popular connection for drivers traveling from Skiatook to Tulsa and has been closed since early July.

Osage County Commissioner Steve Talburt said crews will begin stabilizing a new road in a field east of the original road on Wednesday. Talburt said the county had to come to an agreement with the landowner to build the new road and he’s hopeful it will be ready to go in the next 30 days.

Talburt said crews have been able to prevent more of the original road from collapsing and will put rock where most of the area fell into the creek.

“I know to citizens that it seems like it’s just been a stalled time but we’ve been working every day with engineers, the landowner and the county,” said Commissioner Talburt. “We’ve been trying to jump through all of the hoops to get it done.”

Talburt said drivers will notice a new three-way stop at the north intersection of North 52nd West Avenue when the road is complete. He estimates the project could cost as much as $250,000 and the cost will fall mostly on the county.
