Cherokee Nation members with dreams of becoming pilots of mechanics are getting a new opportunity.

"We will not only expose our students to a job, but it is going to be a career, whether it is on the side of technology or if their goal is to become a pilot," said Corey Bunch with Cherokee Nation.

A new partnership between the Cherokee Nation and Spartan College is encouraging students to dream big - the sky is the limit.

"Spartan College has been around for almost 100 years training pilots and mechanics with a focus on technology and innovation," said Daniel Bregman with Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology. "This is a really big deal. Cherokee Nation is the largest Native American tribe in the United States."

Representatives from the Cherokee Nation and Spartan College are still working out what this partnership will look like in the future, but this school year they are already making sure Cherokee Nation high schoolers understand what opportunities are open to them through Spartan College and what their career could look like.

"This partnership is just another reason for me to be a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation," said Cecil Cummings with Director of Education Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology.

"I look forward to going to the airport and standing at the front of the plane is a Cherokee pilot," said Bunch.
