Bartlesville Public Library Joins TikTok To Encourage Reading, Highlight Resources

A Green Country library is using TikTok to get kids interested in reading.

"I always figure you can go anywhere, be anything, do anything in a book. It doesn't cost anything," said Melissa Wilske with Bartlesville Public Library. 

The Bartlesville Public Library has hit TikTok.

"They are bringing books back from four, five, six, 10 years ago and making them popular again and I think it is great," said Wilske. 

Wilske heard about other libraries getting creative with TikToks and decided the Bartlesville Library could join in, too.

The point of these videos isn't just to get kids into reading, but also so kids know what kind of resources the library provides.

“We are so much more than books. We have computers where you can come in and use the internet with a library card, games to check out for a game night," said Wilske. "We have been coming up with so many ideas on how to highlight things in our library, highlight people in our library."

Wilske believes public libraries are here for everyone and she is using every trick she can think of to connect with every demographic in her community. TikTok is her way to reach teenagers.

"It is so much more than just coming to get a book to read. Even if you can't come to the library, there are e-books, there are e-audiobooks," said Wilske. "If you don't have the money, or you don't want to buy the book, then you can come check it out."
