While local hospitals are seeing fewer COVID-19 patients, Saint Francis Hospital says it's seeing younger patients who are sicker.

Since the majority of those admitted are unvaccinated, the hospital's goal continues to be getting more people the shot.

"If you look over the past week, we've had 45 COVID deaths in just one week within the St. Francis Health System. So it's still an alarming, very dangerous disease. More people have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began than have died in the past five years from influenza." Dr. Mark Frost, Senior VP of the St. Francis Health System said.

With flu season starting, doctors are also encouraging people to get the flu vaccine and say it is safe to get both.
