John 3:16 Mission is collecting food donations to provide Thanksgiving meals for thousands of people.
The annual drive is happening over the next couple of weeks and those with the mission say the need is greater than ever before.
Leaders with John 3:16 Mission say the goal is to collect 44 tons of food and more than 5,000 turkeys.
The mission is not only serving meals but giving thousands of food baskets to anyone who needs them.
Reverend Steve Whitaker with John 3:16 Mission says the organization is nearly 30 percent towards the goal.
He says the need at the mission is severe with grocery costs up and food supply down. Whitaker says they even had to go to Arkansas for their initial turkey supply.
Until the week of Thanksgiving, John 3:16 Mission is collecting items for Thanksgiving meals. That includes stuffing, instant potatoes, gravy mix, mac & cheese, canned sweet potatoes, canned corn, canned green beans, canned fruit, cranberry sauce, pie filling, or Jell-O.
Thanksgiving meals will be served at the mission almost every night during the holiday week. On Monday through Wednesday, the plan is to give more than 5,000 Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need.
"It's a great year for people to come back together,” said Rev. Steve Whitaker with John 3:16 Mission. "It's critically important that everybody be able to come together and have that same experience of family, of community, on Thanksgiving Day."
There are three main drop-off locations: John 3:16 Mission, the Family and Youth Center and Under the Sun Garden Center.
For the next two Saturdays, there will be food drives at several grocery stores in Tulsa and Owasso where you can drop off items.
Additional food drives will take place:
