Restore Hope Ministries is holding an event on Wednesday morning to help veterans with housing and utility assistance ahead of Veteran’s Day on Thursday.
Restore Hope Executive Director Jeff Jaynes said on Wednesday, they will be at the Veteran’s Park Central Center near 6th and Peoria to help veterans with their assistance application paperwork. They will be there from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The organization has paired with the city and county of Tulsa along with the state of Oklahoma to make the COVID-19 assistance funds available to anyone that needs help with rent or utilities.
He said just since April, Restore Hope has received more than 25,000 applications and given out more than $20 million in assistance.
“There are a lot of people who are suffering in the background and we are helping them,” Jaynes said. “We’ve helped over 4,500 households and 2,500 landlords.”
Jaynes told News On 6 that you do have to rent your home or apartment, not own it, and you need to bring a copy of your lease along with identification. He said an eviction notice, late rent notice, or rent ledger are also good to bring if you have them.
If you need utility assistance he said a copy of a utility bill is also required to be able to get the process started.
Jaynes said especially with Veteran’s Day being tomorrow, they want to make sure these people are getting the help they need.
“We want to make sure we are there to help people navigate through the process in an efficient way and hopefully keep them from being homeless,” Jaynes said.
They are also available to take questions from people who are not veterans as well if someone needs help with their assistance paperwork.
