Salvation Army Looking Volunteers As Red Kettle Campaign Kicks Off

The Salvation Army needs your help making sure every child on the Angel Tree has a gift to open this Christmas and they need more volunteers to help with the holiday season.

"And they are like elves, they are organizing, processing, sorting, all the Angel Tree gifts that come in," said Wayde Normandin.

Normandin calls the volunteers elves because he said without their help, they might not be able to provide Christmas for the thousands of kids on the Angel Tree.

"You know that each of these items are truly going to change a child's life and that they're going to open that present on Christmas morning and it is going to bring them joy," said Jenny Swyden.

Swyden said the volunteers help sort toys, distribute Angel Tree tags, and ring the bell for the Red Kettle at one of their 50 locations.

"With every bell ring and every angel tag distributed it is changing lives and so we truly cannot do what we do without our incredible volunteers," said Swyden. She said only half as many people signed up to volunteer this year as in 2019. She said that could mean having to cut back on some Red Kettle locations.

If ringing bells isn't how you want to volunteer, there are more than 3,000 kids who still need to be adopted from the Angel Tree. "We just depend on the community just the generosity that the community brings at this time of year to make this possible," said Normandin.
