Oklahoma Dept. Of Education Announced $5M Investment In Math Tutoring Programs

The Oklahoma State Department of Education on Tuesday announced a $5 million investment in an effort to close the learning gap, created by the pandemic, for 7th-9th graders who need help with math. The state announced in a news release that up to 500 teachers and college students will be paid to tutor up to 1,500 students beginning in January 2022. The state said tutoring will take place virtually, outside of regular school hours.

“The disruptions in learning and trauma associated with the pandemic exacted a serious academic toll,” said Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “In Oklahoma, as in many other states, educators are grappling with unfinished learning across all subjects, but the area most significantly impacted appears to be mathematics. The Math Tutoring Corps can reverse learning loss among the most severely impacted students.”
