School districts across the state are letting parents know about a video being shared on TikTok. The video claims there is a threat against all schools in the country on Friday, December 17.
Tulsa Public Schools sent a letter to parents saying the district is aware of the video being shared on social media. Deputy Superintendent Paula Shannon says the post appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and school leaders don't believe the threat is credible. However, she says they are working closely with campus police and the Tulsa Police Department to monitor any potential threats.
Broken Arrow Public Schools says it is "monitoring the situation closely with Broken Arrow Police and can confirm this is not a credible threat and is a social media hoax."
Union Public Schools also released a statement saying in part: "Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families and staff."
TikTok released a statement saying
"We handle even rumored threats with utmost seriousness, which is why we're working with law enforcement to look into warnings about potential violence at schools even though we have not found evidence of such threats originating or spreading via TikTok."
The School district says there is nothing funny about challenges about school violence or threats about schools.
They are urging parents to talk to their kids and monitor their social media.
Tulsa Public School Issued this message to parents Thursday night.
