A Muskogee woman saved a stranger's life outside a gas station south of town on Sunday.
Racee Henderson says she knew where the nearest fire station was and realized by the time first responders got there it may be too late so she leaped into action. It started when Racee's grandmother Patti saw something out of the corner of her eye as they drove home Sunday night.
"You never know so I went ahead and asked her to turn around and it turns out there was a lady lying on the ground and she was unresponsive," Racee said.
Racee's training as a Certified Nurse Assistant kicked in and she started CPR.
"I never thought I'd have to drop to the ground and do it on the Davis Field parking lot and do it but I didn't hesitate," she said.
Racee says once she found out that the woman had stopped breathing - she knew she was racing against time.
"The closest fire station is five minutes away and after two minutes of your brain being without oxygen you start to have brain damage," she said.
She says paramedics arrived after a few minutes and took over. They were able to revive the woman.
Racee's grandmother Patti Henderson says paramedics told them had Racee not been there, the woman wouldn't have made it.
"I was just so thankful that we stopped. I was so thankful that she said for me to turn around and stop," she said.
