The City of Tulsa is ready to treat possible slick roads as we prepare for this year's first round of winter weather.

With Temperatures below freezing, the city says the rain could make it harder for crews to pretreat roads that could turn hazardous.

City Crews have been on standby since midnight.

The City of Tulsa says it has 67 trucks total, 51 have plows.

Leon Kragel with the City of Tulsa says this is the type of weather that has crews dialed in.

"I know we've got rain pushing up from the south and we got the cold air coming from the north," Kragel said.

The city says it is focusing on busy streets, hills, bridges, overpasses and the downtown area.

Leaders also say they have pure salt ready to go, as they've been receiving four to eight loads of salt a week since mid-summer.

Kragel says rain plays a big factor when it comes to prepping the roads for winter weather.

"I think the biggest challenge we have is the rain," Kragel said. "You know because we would love to go out and pretreat before every storm, but trying to make that timing period between the rain and the actual winter weather coming in. That's our hardest time."

Kragel says this is not the weather you want to get out in for too long, if at all, because he says things can quickly go wrong.

"If a person, especially during the weekend, when individuals don't need to get out, we recommend that they stay in," Kragel said. "It's going to be very cold temperatures. It's going to be brutal to the skin, and if you break down on the side of the road, there's all kinds of situations that can happen there."

Kragel says you should also let your faucets drip so that your pipes won't freeze with the winter weather.
