A few dozen graduates from Tulsa Community College's Spanish interpreting and translating programs were recognized in a pinning ceremony at the downtown campus.
Census data shows Oklahoma's Spanish-speaking population is growing and more translators are needed to help at hospitals, schools, and courtrooms. "It's one thing to know a language, of course, everybody talks about it. But turning it into something that you can use to help people, that you can use as a career and become an interpreter or translator is a big step that's definitely worth the effort," said one graduate, Christopher Oulds.
TCC said it takes 21 credit hours to get certified in Spanish, interpreting or translating.
