Monday, road work began on a busy intersection that connects Owasso and Collinsville.
“A lot of people coming back to work or coming home from work. A lot of traffic," said Elias Ghazal.
Ghazal is the owner of Mom's Diner near 116th Street North and Garnett. He's noticed traffic pick-up in the area over the past 10 years.
“With Owasso’s growth traffic has demanded that we are able to widen this area so if I tell any citizen when they want to know about widening projects it just is indicative of Owasso’s growth which is a good thing," said Chelsea Feary.
Feary is Owasso's Director of Economic Development and said this project has been in the works for several years. She said over the next several months, drivers can expect to see traffic down to one lane, no controlled left turns, and stop signs instead of stoplights. She said businesses will remain open in the area and the project should wrap up later in the year.
“You always have to look for weather delays and any other. You know a lot of things are relying upon the supply chain these days too. So I think we’re going to look probably more towards mid to late fall," said Feary.
She said the city hopes to have the project complete by Black Friday.
