The weather is forcing cancellations at Tulsa International Airport and those with travel plans are now trying to figure out when they'll be able to fly.
While the runways remain open some airlines have canceled flights for both Wednesday and Thursday. American, Delta, Southwest, and United have all canceled and delayed several flights and most arrivals have been canceled as well.
Communications Manager Kim Kuehler says in addition to using de-icing pellets and liquid, crews also use FAA-approved fine grain sand to help keep the runways clear. Kuehler also says a new piece of equipment used for the first time on Wednesday has also been helpful for crews during the storm.
"I've talked to them a few times throughout the day the operations team and snow crews and they actually got to break out a new piece of equipment today called an MV-5 and it's like a snowplow, snow broom, and snow blower all in one and they're very excited because this is what the big airports use like Denver and Chicago in colder areas," said Kuehler.
If you're scheduled to fly out of Tulsa International Airport over the next two days it's important to watch your flight closely.
