Many people are looking for ways to save money on their commutes due to the rise in gas prices. Tulsa Transit says public transportation is a great place to start.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Tulsa is $3.77.

The high prices open the door for people to turn to public transportation to get around.

Tulsa Transit says ridership increased by 5% to 10% in the month of January. This comes as a relief, as transit leaders say ridership declined during the height of the pandemic.

Scott Marr with Tulsa Transit says taking the bus can help riders save money, especially during difficult times.

“We would love for our ridership to get back to what it was pre-COVID,” said Marr. “This is a great opportunity based on the gas prices to get our riders back, giving them other opportunities to ride our buses, especially when we are going through a tough time with the gas prices right now.”

Even though the routes have not changed, due to this new influx of riders, Marr says they are looking into adding new ones in areas where they think more people will ride.
